This hilarious and thoughtful opera features perhaps the most difficult soprano aria ever conceived. Richard Strauss is the composer of other well-known operas like Salome, Elektra, and Der Rosenkavalier. Ariadne auf Naxos is the story of two performing singing groups, one comedic and one serious, that find themselves in conflict after being booked at the same venue on the same evening. Their aristocratic sponsors inform them they must perform simultaneously. Expected mayhem ensues. It will be presented in German during two matinees with English supertitles.
